Taxing Entities and Levies Maps Help
Using these Tools
The Comptroller’s office has gathered the most recently available complete data detailing the types of property and sales tax districts that exist across Texas. Learn about the growth in the entities that levy local property tax and local sales and use tax and how much the taxes Texans pay have increased since the early 1990s.
Two sets of maps have been created that allow users to click on any Texas county and identify the property taxing entities that exist there or the sales taxing entities.
Navigate the Maps
To view the maps, click on Taxing Entities Maps or Tax Levies Maps in the left navigation bar.
Tax Entities
Select the type of taxing data you wish to view by clicking on the green-tone Property Tax map or the red-tone Sales Tax map.
Click on any county to see how many city, county or other entities are authorized to levy taxes in that county or the per capita value of taxes in the county. The lightest-shaded counties have lowest taxing entities or lowest per capita tax value, while the progressively darker shades indicate a greater number of entities or higher tax value.

Link to In-depth Data
Each county’s pop-up information box contains data about its taxing entities or tax levies, and links to appraisal district websites or tax office websites (if available), and the Comptroller’s latest monthly sales tax revenue allocation reports.
To find the total sales tax rate and a breakdown of all the taxing entites at any address, click on Look up tax rates by address, found in any county’s pop-up box on the Local Sales Tax Entities by County map. This will open the Tax Rate Locator on Window on State Government in a new browser window.
Links to the Tax Rate Locator tool can also be found on the Find Local Tax Data page, along with a list of different tax entities. Simply click on the type of entity you are interested in to see a county by county list of entities and rate information.
To view or download monthly local sales tax allocations, select any county in the Local Sales Tax Revenues per Capita Map, then click on the Sales Tax Distributions by Entity link to open the Monthly Sales Tax Allocation Comparison Summary Reports page on Window on State Government. Click on the type of report you are interested in to see tax allocations to each city, county, transit district and special purpose district.
Download the Data
The data for each map or chart may be downloaded as a CSV file and opened in spreadsheet software to sort, compare and review. Each map’s file is posted and may be saved in Windows by right-clicking on the hyperlink and selecting “Save target as”, or in Mac OS by holding down the “control” key and clicking on the hyperlink.
